history
New York Air was a subsidiary of the Texas Air Corporation Holding and was founded in 1980 by Frank Lorenzo as a sister company of Texas International Airlines in New York City. The first flight took place on December 19, 1980 from there to Boston . New York Air quickly expanded its route network, focusing on the northeastern United States and service between New York City and Ohio . Losses caused a crisis in 1982. A new managing director, Michael E. Levine , restructured the company until 1984. After an initial decline, the size of the airline between 1982 and 1984. doubled On February 1, 1987, New York Air with Continental Airlines merged . The latter was bought in 1982 by the Texas Air Corporation , whereby this holding company owned both airlines.
