Dorothee Mields

Dorothee Mields (born April 15, 1971 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German soprano and baroque musician.

Life

Dorothee Mields has parents of German and Bessarabian origin. She studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Bremen with Harry van der Kamp , Elke Holzmann and Gabriele Schreckenbach . She later continued her studies with Julia Hamari (1994 to 1998) and Richetta Manager (since 2006).

She dedicates her work to the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, but also performs with contemporary music. She works regularly with Ludger Rémy , Hans-Christoph Rademann , the Collegium Vocale Gent , the Bach Collegium Japan , the Nederlandse Bachvereniging , the “Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra”, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and others.

Dorothee Mields taught at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar from 2001 to 2003 . Since 2016 she has lectured at the Royal Conservatory The Hague and since 2018 at the University of the Arts Bremen. She has been married to the American composer Aaron Andrew Hunt since 2016.

Award-winning recordings

Her recording of the Gellert Oden by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (with Ludger Rémy on the fortepiano ) was awarded a “Choc” by the magazine Le Monde de la Musique .

The 2014 recording of La Couronne de Fleurs and the fragmentary work La descente d'Orphée aux enfers by Marc-Antoine Charpentier under Paul O'Dette and Stephen Stubbs with Mields as Proserpine and Enone or Amaranthe and other soloists as well as the Boston Chamber Ensemble In February 2015, Early Music Festival received the Grammy Award for “Best Opera Production” of the previous year.
