Julia Hamari

Julia Hamari (pronounced ['hamari]; Hungarian Hamari Júlia ; born November 21, 1942 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian song, oratorio and opera singer ( mezzo-soprano / alto ) and vocal teacher. She is one of the most important song and oratorio singers of her generation.

Life

Julia Hamari learned to play the piano at an early age. She studied at the Budapest Music Academy . Her music teachers were Fatime Martins and Jenö Sipos . In 1965, at the age of 22, she won the Ferenc Erkel Singing Competition in Budapest. The trained singer and singing teacher continued her studies at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart (now the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart ).

In 1966 Hamari made his debut in Vienna, a. a. at the side of singers such as Hermann Prey , Peter Schreier and Theresa Stich-Randall , in the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach and in the same year sang in Rome in the Alto Rhapsody by Johannes Brahms . Hamari sang in many large concert halls under well-known conductors such as Herbert von Karajan , Karl Richter , Vittorio Gui , Georg Solti , Karl Böhm , Rafael Kubelík , to name just a few of the many.

Her concert / song repertoire includes works by Ludwig van Beethoven , Gustav Mahler , Claudio Monteverdi , Friedrich Handel , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Giuseppe Verdi , Joseph Haydn etc.

Hamari is also a well-known opera singer. She made her operatic debut in 1967 at the Salzburg Festival . There she sang the role of Mercedes in the opera Carmen alongside Grace Bumbry , Jon Vickers and Mirella Freni . A year later she sang Carmen at the Stuttgart Opera. During the 1973/74 season she was a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. Here she sang great roles in her field. She has made guest appearances on well-known opera stages at home and abroad, including in Milan, Munich, London, Paris, Vienna, Madrid, Dallas, New York, San Francisco and Cologne. Her operatic repertoire included Cherubino, Dorabella, Despina, Carmen, Octavian, Rosina and Hansel.

In 1989 Julia Hamari was appointed professor for singing at the Stuttgart University of Music. She holds master classes at home and abroad. Many of her students are now themselves well-known singers such as Regine Hermann , Katja Boost , Peter Schüler , Kathrin Koch , Marion Eckstein , Sarah Dirkens and Patrick Van Goethem .
