Concerto Palatino

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Concerto Palatino was a wind ensemble and a municipal institution in Bologna for several centuries . The Concerto Palatino was founded in the early 13th century as an ensemble of eight trumpeters . In the 15th century, trombones were added to the line-up . Between 1537 and 1779 the line-up consisted of eight trumpets, shawms (later prongs ), four trombones, two violas and historical percussion instruments . Much of the repertoire was sacred. This is also due to the fact that the instruments used were an integral part of the musical design of festive church services until the 18th century.

The ensemble today

In 1986 the Zinkenist Bruce Dickey and the trombonist Charles Toet re-established the Ensemble for Historical Performance Practice of the same name.
