history

The Brühl-born conductor, musicologist and theologian Helmut Müller-Brühl founded the Brühl Palace Concerts in 1958 with the aim of making the UNESCO World Heritage Site Augustusburg Palace accessible to a broad audience. Most of the concerts take place in the palace's magnificent baroque staircase. In addition, the surrounding churches and halls serve as venues. Helmut Müller-Brühl directed the Brühl Palace Concerts for almost forty years. During this time the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and the Capella Clementina formed the backbone of the festival.

At the end of 1995, Helmut Müller-Brühl handed over the management of the Brühl Palace Concerts to the conductor and harpsichordist Andreas Spering . Since then, the festival orchestra has been the Capella Augustina, founded by Andreas Spering . The focus of the festival is on the performance of works from the 17th and 18th centuries, with a large number of rarely heard works being included in the program. Since the 2002 season, the ten-day Haydn Festival, the only festival in Germany dedicated to Joseph Haydn, has been held every year at the end of August as part of the Brühl Palace Concerts.

Lena Hug has been the managing director of the Brühler Schlosskonzerte since 2007.
