Helmut Peter Müller-Brühl (born June 28, 1933 in Brühl ; † January 2, 2012 there ) was a German conductor .

life and career

Helmut Müller-Brühl, born in Brühl near Cologne in 1933, studied philosophy and theology in Bonn , then violin / viola with Ernst Nippes in Cologne and with Wolfgang Schneiderhan in Lucerne . In 1958 he was the founder of the Brühler Schlosskonzerte , whose director Andreas Spering succeeded him in 1995 . In 1960 he founded the Cologne Soloist Ensemble and, in 1964, succeeded Erich Kraak as chief conductor of the Cologne Chamber Orchestra , which he directed until 2008.

In 1976 he founded the Capella Clementina as a baroque formation for the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and the “ Lindau Springfestival on Lake Constance. In 1988 he started the subscription series “Das Meisterwerk” in the Cologne Philharmonic .

Helmut Müller-Brühl died on January 2nd, 2012 at the age of 78 and was buried on January 9th, 2012 in the Südfriedhof Brühl.

Müller-Brühl devoted himself primarily to the repertoire of the Baroque and Viennese Classics and recorded around 200 CDs with his ensembles.
