Werner Güra

Werner Güra (* 1964 in Munich ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Werner Güra, whose father was tuba player at the Bavarian State Opera, grew up in Munich, where he attended a science high school after primary school. However, since his love belonged to music and singing, he switched to the music high school of the Regensburger Domspatzen . Domkapellmeister Georg Ratzinger said at the last singing test of Domspatzen Werner Güra that his voice would not be enough for Wagner's "Holländer". But the young man from Munich was not discouraged and studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He completed his vocal training with Kurt Widmer in Basel and with Margreet Honig in Amsterdam. In addition, he took acting lessons from Ruth Berghaus and Theo Adam .

After successful opera guest performances in Frankfurt / Main and Basel, Werner Güra became a member of the ensemble at the Dresden Semperoper in 1995 . There he played the major roles in his vocal field, especially in operas by Gioachino Rossini and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . From the 1998/99 season Werner Güra made guest appearances at the Berlin State Opera .

The artist is also active as a song and oratorio singer. So far he has performed in London, New York, Amsterdam, Ludwigsburg and Vienna, for example, and at the Schubertiades in Schwarzenberg and Barcelona; Several tours have taken him to Japan. Güra works with the great conductors of the time, such as Claudio Abbado , Ádám Fischer , Enoch zu Guttenberg , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Peter Schreier , Philippe Herreweghe , René Jacobs , Wolfgang Gönnenwein and Ton Koopman . During his recitals he is usually accompanied by Christoph Berner , with whom he has worked closely for years.

Werner Güra teaches singing and chamber music at the Zurich University of the Arts .
