Stella Doufexis
Stella Doufexis ( Greek Στέλλα Ντουφεξή , born April 15, 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ; † December 15, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German opera, lied and concert singer with a mezzo-soprano voice .
Life and artistic work
The daughter of the Greek director Stavros Doufexis and a German mother, sang as a student in Frankfurt pop bands. On the advice of her mother, she took lessons and eventually studied singing at the Berlin University of the Arts with Ingrid Figur . She also completed master classes with Aribert Reimann and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau . She completed her training with the English contralto Anna Reynolds .
From 1995 to 1997 she was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg , where she made her debut in the trouser role of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro . Guest appearances at home and abroad followed. She guested z. B. in Munich , Salzburg , Barcelona , Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Glasgow , Antwerp and Brussels . In 2005 she became a permanent member of the ensemble of the Komische Oper Berlin , where she sang important roles in her field: Cherubino , Dorabella , Nikla s and Rosenkavalier- Octavian . Her portrayal of the title role in the world premiere (June 2009) of the opera Hamlet, composed by her husband Christian Jost , and her appearance at the Grand Théâtre de Genève as Muse ( Niklas ) in the opera Hoffmanns Erzählungen by Jacques Offenbach (2012) attracted attention .
Stella Doufexis was a song and concert singer. She has made guest appearances at the festivals in Lucerne and Berlin, the Schubertiade Hohenems , the Ruhr Piano Festival , the Aldeburgh Festival , the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Jerusalem Chamber Festival , the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, and the Halle Handel Festival . She gave concert and song evenings a. a. in Barcelona, Salzburg, Berlin, London, Paris, Moscow and Washington. Her repertoire included songs by Franz Schubert , Robert Schumann , Maurice Ravel , Alessandro Scarlatti , Peter Cornelius , Arnold Schönberg , Richard Strauss , Francis Poulenc .
She worked with the conductors Claudio Abbado , Bernard Haitink , Zubin Mehta , Kent Nagano , Kurt Masur , Helmuth Rilling , Ivor Bolton , Simon Rattle and Carl St. Clair . In autumn 2014 she accepted a position as a singing professor at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf .
Stella Doufexis lived in Berlin and was married to the composer and conductor Christian Jost.
She died on December 15, 2015 at the age of 47 after a long illness in Berlin.
