The KlangNetz Dresden is a project that aims to promote the creation, dissemination and communication of new music in Saxony .

history

KlangNetz Dresden was founded in 2008 and has since been based at the Institute for New Music at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . By 2011, more than 1 million euros in funding were available, which were awarded by the New Music Network , a funding project of the Federal Cultural Foundation , and other partners such as the State Capital Dresden , the Dresden Cultural Foundation of the Dresdner Bank and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony .

The aim of the project is to help contemporary music to gain more attention and understanding in Dresden and beyond the city limits. The work of the network was led by the musicologist Jörn Peter Hiekel (artistic director) and Ines Matschewski as project coordinator. KlangNetz held over 70 events every year. In addition to concerts, these included, above all, symposia, discussions, academies, lectures and educational events in schools.

After the end of funding from the New Music Network, KlangNetz Dresden was founded on November 6, 2012 by representatives of state cultural institutions and the independent scene as a registered association in order to continue the impulses set in the last four years and to continue the diversity of contemporary music in Dresden to be able to bundle. KlangNetz Dresden is now an affiliated institute of the Dresden University of Music, where the administrative office is also located.
