El Perro Andaluz
El Perro Andaluz ( Spanish for The Andalusian Dog ) is an ensemble for new music based in Dresden .
Act
Founded in 2007 by Albrecht Scharnweber and Lennart Dohms through a collaboration with Brian Ferneyhough , El Perro Andaluz has developed into a versatile ensemble for contemporary music and performance in Germany in a very short time . The name of the ensemble is a reference to the short film “Un chien andalou” based on its combination of artistic-friendly cooperation, playful provocation and the search for new forms of expression. EPA has worked in various musical fields since its inception - music theater, installation, concerts and music education projects. For the ensemble's self-image, the interpretation of existing works is just as important as the opportunity to be an active creative partner in the development of new works. Working with more than 60 contemporary composers, EPA has been able to profile this self-image across Europe.
The collaboration with composers such as Lachenmann, Saunders, Hölszky, Tarnopolski, Hellstenius, Katzer or Zender shape the ensemble as well as the endeavors to perform new works by young composers. Activities include theatrical performances and music education projects as well as classical concert forms. In 2011 the ensemble received the City of Dresden's Culture Promotion Prize. In 2012 El Perro Andaluz was Ensemble in Residence of the composition department of the Mozarteum Salzburg, was one of the five ensembles invited as part of the boost program of the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music and traveled to concerts in Spain, England and Cyprus. In 2013 concerts in Israel followed and in 2013 the ensemble was invited by Südwestrundfunk to the ars nova festival in Donaueschingen . From 2013 to 2015 El Perro Andaluz was part of the Germany-wide project Ensemble-Gesellschaft , which is dedicated to social questions about the working methods of freelance ensembles in Germany, together with the ensembles Ascolta , mosaic, Neues Ensemble Hannover, Ensemble recherche and Ensemble Resonanz .
El Perro Andaluz is a member of the KlangNetz Dresden .
