Jörn Peter Hiekel

Jörn Peter Hiekel (* 1963 in Göttingen ) is a German musicologist .

Life

Jörn Peter Hiekel first studied musicology, art history and history at the Universities of Cologne and Bonn before completing a double bass course at the Cologne University of Music . He then received his doctorate from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

For years he worked as an editor and publisher at the music publisher Breitkopf & Härtel and as an author for various ARD stations and newspapers / magazines (including Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Opernwelt). Since 1992 member of various early music ensembles. In 2002 he became a lecturer at the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music and led the composers' seminars.

From 2003 he was junior professor for music in the 20th century at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . He took over the management of the local institute for new music in 2005. In 2008 he completed his habilitation in historical musicology at the Technical University of Dresden and took over a professorship for musicology / new music at the HfM Dresden. Since 2008 he has been a lecturer in music aesthetics and musicology at the Zurich University of the Arts .

Jörn Peter Hiekel is a member of the Saxon Academy of the Arts , 2008–2014 secretary and since June 2015 deputy secretary of the academy's music class. He has been head of the KlangNetz Dresden mediation project since 2008 , and has been a board member of KlangNetz Dresden e. V. 2004–2019 he was a board member at the Darmstadt Institute for New Music and Music Education (INMM), which he took over in 2013.

In 2014 he was awarded the Saxon Teaching Prize, which was awarded for the first time. In 2019 he received the "Happy New Ears" award for journalism at the Bavarian Academy of the Arts.
