Spiegel employees KG

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mirror staff KG (official company name : Limited partnership investment company for SPIEGEL staff mbH & Co. ) is the owner of 50.5 percent of the shares of the Spiegel-Verlag and thus represents a unique investment represents the employees of the publishing company's own employees. KG does not automatically include all employees, but there is an opportunity for everyone who has worked for Spiegel-Verlag for at least three years. Employees of the subsidiaries Spiegel Online and Spiegel TV cannot become shareholders of the Arbeiter KG. Around 760 people are currently entitled to vote.

history

On November 8, 1974, at the instigation of Spiegel founder Rudolf Augstein, Spiegel-Arbeiter KG acquired half of the shares in Spiegel Verlag. Since then, employees have been electing representatives every three years who have a say in important decisions made by the publisher . In addition, Spiegel-Employees KG and thus the employees are entitled to 50 percent of the company's profits.

In 1989, Rudolf Augstein tried to swap the shares in the employee KG for a pension model. However, this was refused by the staff.

The employees KG and the publishing house Gruner + Jahr had a right of first refusal to 0.5 percent of the shares in the event of the death of Rudolf Augstein, which they exercised in 2002. This increased the share of KG employees to 50.5 percent.

The 750 to 800 employees (2007 election: 792 eligible voters) are therefore " silent partners " of the company and elect the five managing directors of the employees KG every three years. Two of the managing directors are elected by the 250 editors, one by the 120 documentaries and employees of the archive. The publishing staff elect the remaining two managing directors.

In 2009 the statutes of the KG were changed in some points, other proposed changes were rejected. 611 of the 763 eligible to vote at the time took part in this vote, that is 80 percent. Since the statutes provide for a 2/3 majority, 509 votes would have been enough. Among the changes that were rejected was the proposal to extend the parliamentary term to four years.

Since the approval of the employees KG on August 21st to appoint Nikolaus Blome (previously BILD-Zeitung ) as head of the capital city office and member of the editor-in-chief from December 1st, 2013, the editors have been collecting signatures in order to get their two representatives Latsch and Wellershoff to resign move because the trust relationship is mostly disturbed. However, this will not change the decision that has already been made.

Thomas Hass became managing director of Spiegel-Verlag in 2015. For him, Johannes Varvakis moved up to the management of the employees KG and Thomas Riedel took over the speaker position.
