Career

Immediately after the Second World War , Jussenhoven became a freelance composer. He initially wrote music for the first carnival revues of the post-war period in the Cologne variety theater " Tazzelwurm " with Grete Fluss . In the following six decades he wrote more than 1,000 music tracks. He was particularly successful in the 1950s and 1960s. His melodies, sung by Ilse Werner , Willy Millowitsch , Peter Alexander , Johannes Heesters or the Kölner Männer-Gesang-Verein , became known to millions of people. The collaboration with the Cologne native Willy Schneider , who interpreted Jussenhovens Man would have to be another twenty and interpreted another 70 compositions by him, was particularly successful .

Numerous texts of his folk songs in Cologne were written by Jupp Schlösser from Cologne ; Many of these songs enrich Cologne's song treasure to this day, for example Die Hüsjer bunt om Aldermaat . The High German texts of his hit compositions often came from the pen of Hans Bradtke , Charly Niessen or Kurt Feltz .

In addition to hits, Jussenhoven composed operettas and musicals , such as the 1963 revue “Eau de Cologne”, the 1979 Kotzebue adaptation “Die deutscher Kleinstädter”, 1989 “Good luck, Bill”, 1992 the Christmas fairy tale “Befana” and shortly before his death that Dramolet »Venus on Wheels«.
