The Dramatiker Union (abbreviated you or DU ; according to the web designer on the homepage, recently also with spaces : Dramatiker Union ) is a German authors' association founded in Leipzig in 1871 . It is the oldest national organization of its kind in Germany. Its president was Gerd Natschinski until September 2012 . His successor is the previous Vice President Thomas Bürkholz , the office of Vice President is shared by Axel Poike and Carl Ceiss . Edith Jeske and Gerd Knappe are also members of the board . The office is in Berlin , where the Dramatiker Union is registered as an association .

The association represents the general professional interests of the authors of word and music dramatic works towards the exploiters, influences the further development of copyright law, seeks contact with playwrights from other countries and their professional associations and works together with all suitable institutions that control the accounting of royalties . The Dramatiker-Union is a member of the German Cultural Council , German Music Council , International Theater Institute (ITI) , the Copyright Initiative and has representatives in various advisory boards, e. B. the artists' social security fund and the Central Stage Service .

Prices

The DU awards two prizes:

  • the Silver Leaf award donated by Günther Weisenborn in 1955 for "personalities [...] who have made a special contribution to the promotion of contemporary dramatic creation", but are "exclusively non-members",
  • The Golden Needle , founded in 1977 by Alfred H. Unger , the former chief dramaturge of the UFA , for "authors of the word and music-dramatic field [...], who have made a special contribution through their artistic achievement and their active commitment in the interests of their colleagues have ", but can also be awarded to DU members.
