Marie-Louise Steinbauer (born January 3, 1934 in Cologne ) is a German journalist , presenter and author .

Life

Marie-Louise Steinbauer, who was born in Cologne, first attended schools in Berlin and Bromberg , later switched to boarding school at Keppel Abbey and finished school with the Abitur in Cologne. At the state interpreting school there, she deepened her knowledge of English and French and received a corresponding diploma in both languages. Her first professional activity followed as an industrial interpreter at the automobile manufacturer Ford in Cologne.

During this time she began to work as a model for fashion shoots in Cologne for the first time. A short time later, further recordings were made for the renowned magazine Film und Frau in Berlin, including the first cover pictures. She met the cosmetics entrepreneur Helmut Frankenberg in the mid-1950s, whom she married a short time later. The daughter Pia Frankenberg emerged from this relationship in 1957 . After only one year, the marriage with Helmut Frankenberg was divorced and their daughter grew up with her father, who died in 1974 in the crash of the Lufthansa flight 540 in Nairobi.

In the period that followed, Steinbauer devoted herself entirely to her career as a mannequin with stations in Paris, London and Rome. She reached a professional high point in the early 1960s with a contract with the prestigious New York agency Eileen Ford . Steinbauer lived in New York for a total of four years. Here she got to know the journalist of the NDR Werner Baecker , who had developed the TV entertainment program The current Schaubude .

Through the mediation of Baecker, she and Christian Müller took over the moderation of the current showroom in 1966 . During the ten-year time they spent together until 1976, the moderators welcomed numerous local celebrities as well as international stars such as ABBA , Shirley McLaine , Sammy Davis junior and Peter Ustinov . In 1974 she wrote the book Budenzauber about her experiences and encounters in the current showroom . During the show booth years, Steinbauer also moderated other programs, such as the two German preliminary decisions for the Eurovision Song Contest 1969 Ein Lied für Madrid and 1970 Ein Lied für Amsterdam . She also appeared as a guest in other entertainment programs, such as in 1975 in Hans Rosenthal's Dalli Dalli or in 1976 in Rudi Carrell's Amlauf Band .

Following on from her time as a mannequin, Steinbauer and co-author Rudolf Kinzel wrote a book about fur fashion in 1973. She also designed fashion for Otto Versand , for which she later worked as a fashion PR representative. As fashion editor of the NDR she led the television show Chic until 1988 , for the WDR she also presented since 1983 as a presenter at the side of Werner Sonne and later Michael Stoffregen-Büller, the news program Current Hour .

Marie-Louise Steinbauer achieved great popularity from 1982 onwards as the presenter of the NDR Talk Show . Until 1991, she moderated this program 46 times , mostly together with her colleagues Hermann Schreiber and Wolf Schneider . After that she occasionally returned to the screen, for example in 1996 when she hosted the NDR New Year's Eve show together with Carlo von Tiedemann . Steinbauer was married to the director Hermann Leitner in 1983 in his second marriage . Steinbauer processed her experiences with the actress Romy Schneider in her 1999 book The Other Romy, Snapshots .
