Hermann Schreiber (journalist)

Hermann Schreiber (born August 9, 1929 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ; † April 12, 2020 ) was a German journalist , author and presenter .

Life

His father was the district director of an insurance company in Ludwigshafen. After graduating from Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium Stuttgart , he completed training as a journalist at the State Gazette for Württemberg-Baden . In 1952 he got his first job as editor and reporter at the Stuttgarter Zeitung , where he last worked as a special correspondent.

In 1964 he went to the news magazine Der Spiegel as a reporter , where on July 1, 1967, he became “managing Spiegel editor”. He was honored with the Theodor Wolff Prize in 1966 for his Spiegel report in 1966 entitled “I will try to forget” about US soldiers in the Vietnam War .

In 1979 he moved to Gruner + Jahr , the GEO magazine , where he was chief reporter until 1987. He then held the position of GEO editor-in-chief until 1992.

During his journalistic career, Schreiber published numerous books on political and social topics, including the fall of the Chancellor , The Crisis in the Middle of Life and biographies of u. a. Willy Brandt , Gustav Heinemann , Philip Rosenthal and Henri Nannen . The latter also appointed Schreiber to the jury of the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize in 1977 .

Between 1979 and 1993 Schreiber was a regular presenter on the NDR Talk Show . In the films Drei Schwestern made in Germany (2006) and The Woman Who Disappeared in the Forest (2009) by Oliver Storz , he took on a role as an actor.

Private

In his first marriage he was married to the book author Marion Schreiber-Kellermann (* 1920) since 1951. He spent his retirement together with his wife Jutta Temme in Munkmarsch on Sylt ; his primary residence was in Hamburg .
