Franz Xaver (Anton) Murschhauser (baptized July 1, 1663 in Zabern ; † January 6, 1738 in Munich ) was a German organist and composer .

Live and act

Franz Xaver (Anton) Murschhauser completed his high school studies in 1678 at the Jesuit high school in Munich (today Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich ).

He received his musical training in Munich as a student of Johann Caspar von Kerll . From 1691 until his death he was organist at the Frauenkirche in Munich.

He wrote works for organ, ten psalms (five of them a cappella ) and a laudation. The Octi-tonium novum organicum (1696) contains versette cycles, enclosed by the prelude and finale, in the eight church tones, to be played as an alternative to psalms and the magnificat , as was customary in the Catholic South German church music practice of the time. In addition, there are variation cycles at Christmas time, including the variations super cantilenas “Last unß dass Kindelein weigh” per imitation cuculi , ie with constant “cuckoo call ”. The prototype longo-breve , published in two parts in 1703 and 1707, includes preludes and epilogues that can be used in figural music .
