A slightly revised version of the song was released on February 14, 2017. Levina reached the penultimate place with 6 points at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev on May 13, 2017 .

Musical and content

Perfect Life is a pop song . The tempo of the song is 124 beats per minute . Lindsey Ray said the message of this song was that "one should embark on the adventure of the unknown and that in the end, the ups and downs, both good and bad, make up a perfect life."

“I've been walking asleep
Dreaming awake
Finding I bend but I don't break
I'm almost a sinner
Nearly a saint
Finding with every breath I take
I'm not afraid of making mistakes
Sometimes it's wrong before it's right
That's what you call a perfect life ”

- Refrain, original excerpt

“I've sleepwalked Dreamed
with my eyes open Find
that I bow but don't break
I'm almost a sinner
Almost a saint
I realize with every breath I take
that I'm not afraid to make mistakes
Sometimes is it wrong before it is right
That's called a perfect life "

- Refrain, translation

reception

The Kölnische Rundschau wrote that the piece was “a great pop song that doesn't bother you”. Marcel Menne from plattentests.de described the song as “a contemporary pop song off the peg”. Luca Wisnagrotzky, who reviewed Levina's album Unexpected for the website laut.de, called Perfect Life a “shallow and interchangeable David Guetta feat. Sia imitation ".

Plagiarism allegation

Soon after the piece was published, allegations of plagiarism on review websites, blogs, radio broadcasts and comments on the YouTube upload caused a sensation. The song was compared with Titanium by French DJ and producer David Guetta, which was written and sung by the Australian musician Sia . The focus was in particular on the tones sounding in the intro or its melody. In addition, parallels were drawn with the use of the synthesizer and the structure of the song. The chorus shows “a striking melodic similarity” to the song Wild and Young designed by Aleksandra Kovač . Levina defended the play:

“I also understand a little that people want to see a similarity in the intro. But once the melody and the vocals start, it's a whole different song. [...] I think the song is great and want to perform it as my own song - which it is. "
