Perfect Life ( English for Perfect Life ) is a pop song and the German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev . Levina took the penultimate place with the piece.
Creation and publication
Perfect Life was written by the American songwriters Lindsey Ray, Dave Bassette and Lindy Robbins. Robbins is known as a songwriter for Jason Derulo and David Guetta , among others . The piece was recorded in different versions, each of which was adapted to the music style of Axel Maximilian Feige, Felicia Lu Kürbiß, Helene Nissen , Levina and Yosefin Buohler, the participants in Unser Song 2017 . The Kölnische Rundschau wrote that the piece was “a great pop song that doesn't bother you”. Marcel Menne from plattentests.de described the song as “a contemporary pop song off the peg”. Luca Wisnagrotzky, who reviewed Levina's album Unexpected for the website laut.de, called Perfect Life a “shallow and interchangeable David Guetta feat. Sia imitation ".
Plagiarism allegation
Soon after the piece was published, allegations of plagiarism on review websites, blogs, radio broadcasts and comments on the YouTube upload caused a sensation. The song was compared with Titanium by French DJ and producer David Guetta, which was written and sung by the Australian musician Sia . The focus was in particular on the tones sounding in the intro or its melody. In addition, parallels were drawn with the use of the synthesizer and the structure of the song. Shortly after its release, Perfect Life made it to the top of the German iTunes charts. In the official single charts, the song climbed to number 28 and dropped out again after two weeks. The placement was also the worst placement of a German ESC contribution since 2003, when Lou missed the top 100 with Let's Get Happy .
Music video
The video was published on February 16, 2017 on the official YouTube channel of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is three minutes and six seconds long and shows the singer in front of a color-changing background. The music video was viewed hundreds of thousands of times in less than a week.
