Rainer Pietsch (musician)
Rainer Pietsch (born April 12, 1944 in Walburg , † August 21, 1997 in Munich ) was a German music producer, singer (known under the name Ray P. ), songwriter and conductor .
Life
In 1953 he joined the Thomanerchor Leipzig and in 1958 fled the GDR. In his youth he was active in the Cologne beat music scene and in 1962 he was a founding member of the rock band Ray & Typhoons , a forerunner of the Bläck Fööss , in which he played with various members of the later band. After graduating from high school in 1965, he recorded his first single a year later. From 1969 he worked as a producer at Harvest Records , worked as an arranger and from 1971 became self-employed. In 1976 Pietsch founded RAM Musikverlag and in 1979 AutoBahn Musikverlag Pietsch u. Co.
He achieved the first gold record as a music producer in 1975 together with Michael Holm and the title Tears Don't Lie . His first participation in the Grand Prix was in 1975 with Joy Fleming's A song can be a bridge , for which he had composed the music and also conducted the orchestra on the evening of the event. This received particular media attention because at the beginning of the piece he repeatedly stomped rhythmically on the floor. During his career he received other gold records as a composer. In 1984 he took part in the Tokyo Song Festival with the title Don't break the silence and reached 2nd place.
He conducted the German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest three times :
- 1975 : A song can be a bridge that he composed himself and for which Michael Holm wrote the lyrics
- 1985 : For everyone with the Wind group
- 1990 : To live freely with the performers Chris Kempers and Daniel Kovac
He wrote music for Ingrid Peters , Jürgen Drews , Mary Roos , Michael Holm , Nicole , Rex Gildo and Wind, among others .
