The Grieg Hall

The Grieghalle ( Norwegian Grieghallen ) is a concert hall with 1,500 seats in Bergen . Since the hall was completed in 1978, it has been the rehearsal and concert hall of the Philharmonic Orchestra in Bergen. In 1986, the Eurovision Song Contest was held here, and the Norwegian Wind Instrument Championship , which takes place every winter, is held there. The hall is named after Edvard Grieg , who was born in Bergen and who was musical director of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra from 1880 to 1882. The building was awarded the Norwegian architecture prize Betongtavlen in 1978 .

Recording studio

The “Grieghallen Lydstudio” recording studio in the hall is very popular with musicians on the Norwegian black metal scene; several of the most important albums by Norwegian bands were recorded together with the local sound engineer, Pytten.
