Maria Alexandra Aspasia Ionitza-Lund , formerly: Maria Rantaniva (born May 9, 1983 in Munich ) is a Finnish singer and actress .

Life

Maria Lund is the daughter of the Finnish soprano Tamara Lund, who died in 2005, and the Romanian opera singer Alexandru Ionitza, who died in 2010 . She spent her youth in Düsseldorf , North Rhine-Westphalia , where she attended a French school and gained her first acting experience through school theater at an early age. At the age of 16 she started a career as a jazz singer with the help of her famous mother and worked with Finnish artists Heikki Sarmanto , Sakari Kukko and Jarmo Savolainen , among others . After graduating from high school, Maria Lund lived alternately with her father in Düsseldorf and her mother in Turku , Finland . During this time she continued to develop her acting career in Finland and, in addition to playing on small stages, also had short television appearances.

In 2002, she took part in the Miss Suomen Neito regional beauty pageant and attracted attention for being the first to compete in the need for an plus-size swimsuit. There she reached a place in the final of the top ten. In 2005 she took part in the Lady Summertime singing competition under the name Maria Rantaniva , but only finished fifth out of six participants.

Career

Maria Lund first attracted public attention in 1998 with the song "Uskon sydämen totuuteen", a cover version of Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On".

Shortly after taking part in the Suomen-Neito competition, Lund made a name for herself again when, at the age of 19, she posed freely for a photo series in the gossip magazine "7 päivää".

After several small engagements on stages in the south of Finland, Lund could be seen in the Finnish edition of Dancing with the stars ( Tanssii täthtien kanssa ) in spring 2008 . In the final on, she and her partner Mikko Ahti competed against the Finnish actor Nicke Lingell and his dance partner Susa Matson . The couple were 104 to 110 points behind in the judges' ranking, but won the audience ranking because Maria Lund dedicated the second dance, a slow waltz, to her deceased mother. Lund and her partner represented Finland on September 6, 2008 at the Eurovision Dance Contest in Glasgow. Although the representatives of Finland won the competition in 2007 and Maria Lund and Mikko Ahti were favorites before the show, they had no chance against the strong couple from Poland and ended up in 10th place.

In 2010 Maria Lund took part in the Finnish qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Sydän Ymmärtää" , but did not win it. Her album "Ajan sävel", which was released in 2008 and mainly contains hits and cover versions of Finnish rock songs, climbed to number 22 in the Finnish charts. The album "Tahdon" from 2009 reached number 53. From October to December 2010 Maria Lund hosted the music program "Obladii" together with the singers Laura Sippola and Johanna Försti , the 12 recordings of which were broadcast every Saturday on the television channel YLE TV2 .

Private life

Maria Lund was engaged to Thomas Meinders from Düsseldorf for three years. After their separation, she met her Finnish fellow actor Mikko Rantaniva during rehearsals for the musical West Side Story know. The couple married on July 4, 2005. Three weeks later, their mother died of complications from cancer, which led Lund to withdraw from the public almost entirely for a year. In July 2009, Maria and Mikko Rantaniva filed for divorce after almost four years of marriage. On January 2, 2010, her father also died of cancer.

At the beginning of October 2010, Lund confirmed to the Ilta-Sanomat that a pregnancy had already been suspected by many media. Persistent rumors about a secret relationship with her producer Valtteri Tynkkynen were already circulating during Maria's marriage, but were just as consistently denied by the two.

Maria Lund and Valtteri Tynkkynen now have two children together.
