In the German cities in which the Fête de la Musique takes place there are in some cases local contacts who coordinate and mediate the activities, establish contact with the city authorities and promote and promote the event, etc. There has been a Germany-wide since 2018 In 2019 a Europe-wide singalong, in which the ode to joy is sung in the national language as a flash mob in the participating countries (Belgium, Greece, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria and Germany).
history
The festival dates back to an initiative by Jack Lang in 1981 when he was French Minister of Culture . The first official Fête de la Musique took place on June 21, 1982 in Paris . The festival has been celebrated across the country since then and has become increasingly popular over the decades.
“Fête de la Musique” in Munich
In 1985, Munich was the first German city to take up the idea of the Fête de la Musique . However, the intention was not to make music and celebrate just on one day, which is how the “European Music Days” came about. In the meantime, this event is no longer limited to Munich, but takes place throughout Bavaria. The actual Fête de la Musique has been celebrated in Munich since 2007 with the support of the Munich Institut français .
“Fête de la Musique” in Berlin
The Fête de la Musique has been celebrated in Berlin since 1995 - especially in the Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain districts, but also in all other districts. In Friedrichshain, for example, a large number of artists and street musicians gather on the Warschauer Brücke and on the RAW site. At "FETEBerlin" in June 2019 there will be over 600 official individual events at more than 160 locations. The Fête de la Musique Berlin was organized from 1995 to 2017 by Simone Hofmann as managing director of the "Fête Company", which is a member of the cooperation network of the Berlin music industry Berlin Music Commission . Since 2018, the Musicbaord Berlin has been entrusted with the implementation of the event under the direction of Katja Lucker. Björn Döring has been the curator of FETEBerlin since then. Since 2018, FETE Berlin has made a district the focus of its music festival. In 2018, Lichtenberg started the focus district idea, and Treptow-Köpenick will follow in 2019.

Basic idea
The main idea of the festival is:
- Motivation of the regional music scene on this day in public space free of charge
- free access to all concerts
- musical diversity
- Spontaneity
- the city should be full of music and sounds on this day to mark the beginning of summer
phenomenology
The festival has developed into a manifestation of the “event culture” in French cities and thus into a kind of “sure-fire success”. The summer evening mood has a large part in the atmosphere of the festival. However, it is now partly criticized that kiosks, outpatient vendors, etc. make the Fête de la Musique into a “Fête de la Bière” (beer festival, Oktoberfest) or “Fête de la Bouffe” (literally: “Fressfest”), which means the non-commercial and purely musical basic idea of the Fête is falling behind in some cities.
