Jair da Costa , called Jair , (born July 9, 1940 in Santo André , state of São Paolo ) is a former Brazilian football player .

Career

Jair was born in Santo André and grew up in Osasco from the age of nine . He came to the Portuguesa club in São Paulo , where he was promoted to the first team in 1960 and was soon appointed to the squad of the Brazilian national soccer team.

From an emissary of AC Milan discovered he was found at trial in Milan for too delicate. Those in charge of Inter Milan and its president Angelo Moratti thought differently and committed Jair in 1962. Bureaucratic delays in the clearance, which culminated in the picturesque attempt to find an Italian great-grandmother for Jair, meant that he could only be used on matchday 8 . After two minutes in the Inter shirt, he already scored his first goal and subsequently won four Italian championship titles with the team: 1963, 1965, 1966 and 1971. In between, Jair played for AS Roma for a year from 1967 to 1968 .

With Inter, Jair also won the European Cup twice , in 1964 and 1965. In the same years, he also won the World Cup for club teams twice . His most important goal for Inter he scored in the final of the 1965 championship cup against Benfica Lisbon , which ended 1-0.

In 1972 Jair returned to Brazil and played there for two years alongside Pelé for Santos FC until 1974 , before ending his career with the Windsor Stars in Canada in 1976 .

Jair's special talent as a right winger lay in his fast, effective kick-off, a sophisticated and effective ball handling along with perfect dribbling . His actions on the flank of the advanced left-back Giacinto Facchetti are memorable . Jair was a very modern player and the perfect match in the storm of the legendary Grande Inter.

For the Brazilian national soccer team Jair played only once, namely in May 1962 in a 3-1 in a friendly against Wales at the Estádio do Morumbi in São Paulo. At the 1962 World Cup in Chile , which was victorious for Brazil , Jair with the number 18 was part of the squad, but was not used in the tournament because the right wing position belonged to the legendary Garrincha .
