Zózimo , whose full name was Zózimo Alves Calazães (born June 19, 1932 in Salvador da Bahia , † July 17, 1977 in Rio de Janeiro ), was a Brazilian soccer player who took part in two soccer world championships with the national team of his home country and twice Became world champion.

Career

Club career

Zózimo, born on June 19, 1932 in Salvador da Bahia, the third largest city in Brazil , began his football career with São Cristóvão de Futebol e Regatas in Rio de Janeiro. After serving in the club's youth departments for three years, he was signed by Bangu AC . The club, which now plays at an amateur level, was one of the top addresses in Brazilian football at the time. Zózimo played in Rio de Janeiro, where Bangu AC was based, among others, together with Zizinho , Ademir da Guia and Luís Morais , but he could not win a bigger title like the Brazilian championship or the cup with this club. Zózimo left the club in 1965 after fourteen years at the age of 33 and joined Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , a local rival of his old club. Only a short time later he moved on to Portuguesa from São Paulo. After a year with this club, he went to Esportiva de Guaratinguetá, to leave the club after less than a year and henceforth to play for Sporting Cristal in Peru's capital Lima , where he ended his career in 1967. About ten years later, Zózimo died at the age of 45 in a car accident in Rio de Janeiro.

National team

In the Brazilian national soccer team , Zózimo Alves Calazães made 35 appearances between 1955 and 1962. He scored a goal. His first national team appearance had Zózimo on November 13, 1955 in the 3-0 win against Paraguay in the Estádio Maracanã of Rio de Janeiro. Three years later he was nominated for the soccer world championship in Sweden by Brazil's national soccer coach Vicente Feola . In Scandinavia , however, he was only a reserve player and he was not used once while the Brazilian team won their first world title. Four years later in Chile , Zózimo experienced his second world championship. This time he was a regular in the Brazilian team and was used in five of the six games, including the final in Santiago de Chile , which Brazil won 3-1 against Czechoslovakia and thus managed to defend the title.
