history
The place is located on the western edge of the sub-area of Upper Silesia , which until 1177/1178 belonged to Lesser Poland or to the Duchy of Krakow and then came to the Duchy of Ratibor , which was ruled by the Silesian Piasts . It was from this time that it belonged to the diocese of Krakow until 1821 .
The village of Orzesche has been traceable since 1252, at that time it was owned by the Cistercian monastery Groß Rauden (Rudy Raciborskie). Orzesche only became important in the 18th century. In 1719 a glassworks was built , which became one of the local businesses. When the Upper Silesian industrialist Franz Winckler (ennobled in 1840) acquired the manor in 1836 , he began building the Marien ironworks in 1838 , which processed the clay iron found here . The ironworks became part of the Tiele-Wincklerschen Montanwerke, which were incorporated into the newly founded family empire Kattowitzer Aktiengesellschaft für Bergbau und Eisenhüttenbetrieb in 1899 .
In addition to the mining of iron ore, hard coal was also mined. In 1856 the village received a railway connection with the line from Katowice to Ratibor .
Orzesche had belonged to the Upper Silesian district of Pless since 1818 and became Polish on June 28, 1922. After the attack on Poland in 1939, the place came under international law to the German Reich and has been in Poland since 1945. The Tiele-Winckler family was expropriated.
The rapidly growing industrial estate was elevated to an urban-type settlement in 1956 and received city rights in 1962 .
Glass production is still in operation in Orzesze, while a glass bottle production company is located in the city.
