The Birawka (1936–45: Bierau , Polish Bierawka ) is a right tributary of the Oder in Upper Silesia , Poland .
It rises in the Orzescher Heights southwest of Katowice in the Upper Silesian coal mining area. On its way to the northwest it flows through the cities of Orzesze ( Orzesche ) and Czerwionka-Leszczyny ( Czerwionka-Leschczin ). On its further course it flows through the large forest area between Koźle ( Cosel ), Gliwice ( Gleiwitz ), Rybnik and Racibórz ( Ratibor ). Their water power has been used here for the operation of hammers since the 18th century . Smelting works, such as B. in Kotlarnia ( Jakobswalde ), stood on their banks.
After about 50 kilometers the Birawka flows into the Oder near the village of Bierawa ( Birawa ).
The Raude runs parallel to the south of the Birawka .
