Andrea Juergens

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andrea Elisabeth Maria Jürgens (born May 15, 1967 in Wanne-Eickel ; † July 20, 2017 in Recklinghausen ) was a German pop singer . She became known as a child star in the late 1970s .

Private life

Andrea Jürgens was born in 1967 as the second child of Heinrich ("Heinz", 1934–2010) and Margret Jürgens (1928–2016) in Wanne-Eickel. Her brother, born in 1955, died in 2013. In February 1989 she married her long-time partner Ralf Stiller, with whom she had had a relationship since 1981. The marriage was divorced in 1994.

Career

Child star in the late 1970s

In 1977 Jack White discovered Jürgens at the age of ten in the ARD New Year's Eve gala by Amlauf Band with Rudi Carrell, her first television appearance. That evening she presented the song composed by White and written by Jon Athan, And I Love You Both , in which she sang about the situation after a divorce from a child's perspective . She then appeared on other television shows, and her song was picked up by several radio stations. The single entered the German single charts in January 1978 and reached fourth place. In March of that year she sang in the ZDF hit parade moderated by Dieter Thomas Heck , in which she took first place.

Her second success was in July 1978 the song I show you my paradise (5th place), which, like Tina ist weg (1979, 49th place), made it into the German charts. She cemented her image as the first child star after Heintje , with whom she sang a duet in the television show Zwischenmahlzeit that same year . The year 1979, which had been proclaimed by the UN as the year of the child , led to the next hit, Ein Herz für Kinder , which was written as the theme song for the image campaign of the same name . A rose for you immediately followed . In October 1979 the LP Christmas with Andrea Jürgens was released , which was sold over 1.5 million times within three months. It was thus the best-selling Christmas album for a long time and received an entry in the Guinness Book of Records .

Development in the 1980s

In the following years, other records with high sales figures appeared, including the album Andrea Jürgens sings the most beautiful German folk songs , which reached number 18 in the German charts. In 1981 the chart entered the chart again with the two songs Mama Lorraine and Japanese Boy . In 1982 Playa Blanca also hit the charts. Like Manuel Goodbye (1983), the piece is a title originally sung in English by Linda Susan Bauer , which Jack White had translated into a German version for Jürgens.

The albums Solang 'a girl can dream (1982) and Because we love each other could not build on the success of the early albums, although numerous singles were also extracted from these. This was followed by a phase without long-playing records until 1990, which was only interrupted by the release of a best-of album in 1987 and a number of singles.

Later years

In 1995, Jürgens released the single We reach for the stars with the Nockalm Quintet . In 2002 she celebrated her 25th anniversary on stage. In January 2008 the album Forbidden Dreams was released . In October 2010 she released Ich hab nur ein Herz , her first album on Palm Records. The single of the same name reached the top of the airplay charts in the "German Schlager" category . In March 2011, I Believed I Was Her Girlfriend was released as the next single. Another release from the album was roses without thorns . From 2014 to 2016 Maurice van Beek was her manager and took care of her comeback as a singer. In 2016, the album Millions of Stars followed , which ranked 10th in Germany better than their previous albums.

Her tour, which started in autumn 2016, had to be canceled in April 2017 for health reasons. Andrea Jürgens died in July 2017 at the age of 50 as a result of acute kidney failure . She was buried in the central cemetery in Recklinghausen.

Awards

Andrea Jürgens has received several national music awards for her music. The album Christmas with Andrea Jürgens received gold and platinum several times. In 1982 and 1983 it was awarded the Golden Tuning Fork , and in 1978 and 1979 there were silver lions and 1980 and 1984 bronze lions from Radio Luxemburg . In 1989 she received the “Golden Note from RTL” for the title “Amore Amore”. In 2016 she was awarded the smago! Award honored.
