Farian was of the opinion that Anderson should publish the title himself. Mama Lorraine's first release finally took place in April 1981 as a 7 ″ single in Germany and the Netherlands. Three months later, a 12 ″ single was released. In addition to the radio version of Mama Lorraine, the maxi single contains the song Baby I Hear You Crying in the Night as the B-side .

In order to promote the song, there was a live appearance on the ZDF music show disco in August 1981, as well as some medleys in which Mama Lorraine was included.
