Birthe Kjær (born September 1, 1948 in Aarhus ) is a Danish pop singer .

Her singing career began in the late 1960s and she released an album almost every year from then on. In 1980, 1986 and 1987 she took part in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix without winning. In 1989, however, she won the Danish preliminary round and was therefore allowed to compete for her home country at the Concours Eurovision de la Chanson 1989 in Lausanne . She came third with the hit song byen rød .

In 1990 she moderated the Danish preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

In 2004 she had a chart hit with the Safri Duo : The single Hvor `vi fra? was the anthem for the Danish team at the 2004 European Football Championship . In 2005 she wanted to take part in the dance show Vild med dans , the Danish Let's Dance , but suffered a heart attack during rehearsals, which was followed by a quick recovery. In 2009 she presented the Danish preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest again .
