Winner of the Danish MGP 2009: Niels Brinck

The Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2009 was the Danish national preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 . The DMGP took place on January 31st at the MCH Messecenter Herning in Herning . and was made by Birthe Kjær , who herself participated in the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest for Denmark in Lausanne , and television and radio presenter Felix Smith .

There was again a classic preliminary decision and a change in the rating system. This decision was made by DR because the broadcaster had financial difficulties and could not find a venue for several shows; in addition, the rating system was changed in 2009.

The participating songs were revealed on January 9th, 2009 after DR internally reduced the field of submitted contributions to the best songs. The total number of contributions submitted to the DR was 684, an increase of 443 compared to the previous year.

The final consisted of ten songs, six from the public submissions and four that were invited by the DR to participate.

During the competition, four songs were selected in a first round, which reached the "knockout round" in an equivalent mixture of SMS voting and jury decision, in which they competed in pairs against each other for the finals. In a further SMS voting round, the overall winner of the competition was determined.

Due to a technical error, the music album was released prematurely. Even before the CD went on sale, the record label made it possible to legally download it one day before the competition. One of only 17 buyers uploaded the album in ten parts to the YouTube platform . The record company My Way Music announced to initiate legal action.

First round

Four of the ten participants were elected to the knockout round. These were Sukkerchok , Hera Björk , Niels Brinck and Johnny Deluxe .

format

The system of the last two years, in which there were two semi-finals and a second chance round before the final, could no longer be maintained due to financial problems of Danish television . The new system, which only takes place in one evening, looks like this:

After all ten songs have been performed, there is a voting phase. The best four songs are divided into KO rounds (two songs per KO round) and sung again, after which there is another vote. The song with the most votes in each knockout round goes to the finals, where both titles are sung again. The song with the most votes wins the right to Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow .
