Less than a week after the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, DR started preparations for the national selection competition Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2011 . Contributions could be submitted until September 27, 2010. Performers or songwriters had to have Danish citizenship or a similar close relationship with Denmark. The jury selected six titles from the offer, while four further contributions were submitted by invitation to participate on the basis of editorial considerations. On September 27, 2010, DR announced that with 663 songs, 101 more were submitted than in the previous year. On October 15, 2010, DR announced that the event would take place on February 26, 2011 at the Super Arena in Ballerup , a suburb of Copenhagen . On December 11, 2010, DR named presenters Felix Smith and Lise Rønne to host the show.

The ten competitors were presented to the public by the organizer on February 3rd.
