The 46th Dansk Melodi Grand Prix , the Danish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, took place on February 13, 2016 in the Forum in Horsens . Music producer Cutfather , who was on the jury in previous years , acted as musical director . From June 30th to September 7th, 2015, 982 entries were submitted, a new record. Among the participants was Simone, who reached the superfinals in 2010 and 2013, and Emmelie de Forest as composer .

The final consisted of two voting rounds. In the first, all participants were judged by both the Danish audience via SMS voting and a five-person jury. This consisted of:

• Vicky Leander, choreographer and stage director
• Christina Chanée , participant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010
• John Gordon , songwriter, wrote Lena's winning entry Satellite 2010
• Dennis Johannessen, radio presenter on DR P4
• Mette Thorning Svendsen, member of OGAE Denmark

The three best placed reached the superfinal, in which the televoting alone decided.

The winners of the Danish preliminary decision: Lighthouse X

In the superfinal, the band Lighthouse X won over Simone, who was third for the second time, and Anja Nissen, who won the talent show The Voice in Australia in 2014 , and whose song was written by ESC winner Emmelie de Forest.
