Jenny Berggren
Jenny Cecilia Berggren (born May 19, 1972 in Gothenburg ) (married Jenny Cecilia Petrén ) is a Swedish mezzo-soprano and singer . She was a member of the pop group Ace of Base .
Life
Berggren was the third of three children of X-ray technicians Göran and Britta Berggren. She learned the violin with her sister Malin and sang in the local church choir . The Berggren siblings together with Ulf Ekberg formed the Swedish pop group Ace of Base at the end of the 1980s. Berggren initially studied music at the local university to become a teacher, but gave up these plans after Ace of Base got a recording deal from Mega Records. Berggren had lead singer status alongside her sister Malin within Ace of Base . She also composed songs for the group. In 1994, Berggren was threatened with a knife by a German fan while visiting her parents' house. Berggren's parents were able to bring down the attacker. Berggren suffered from the psychological consequences of this attack for many years.
In 2009 Berggren announced her exit from Ace of Base and the start of her solo career on Twitter . In October 2010 she said in an interview with the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that she had never wanted to leave the band. Rather, she was excluded from the other band members, which led to tensions between the previous trio. In July 2016, Berggren said in another interview that there will be no reunification of Ace of Base despite mutual family plans for the future.
Berggren is married to the Swedish pianist Jakob Petrén. The couple have two children and live in Gothenburg.
