Birthe Wilke (born March 19, 1936 ) is a Danish singer .

Growing up in Copenhagen , she won a talent competition as a young girl and when she was 20 she recorded her first record: a version of Doris Days Que Sera, Sera . After a title was selected for her and the singer Gustav Winckler at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix , they were the first Danes to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957 . The duet Skibet Skal sejle i nat (German: The ship sets sail tonight ) ended the two singers with a long kiss, which caused indignation at the time. Eventually they reached third place.

Alone she took part in the Eurovision Song Contest again in 1959 and achieved fifth place with her cheerful chanson Uh, jeg ville ønske jeg var dig ( Eng : Uh, I wish I was you ). At that time, she performed in Germany , Poland and the USA . From the mid-1960s she withdrew into private life.
