The Dimokratikí Symmachía ( Greek Δημοκρατική Συμμαχία , Democratic Alliance ') was a liberal party in Greece . It was founded on November 21, 2010 by Dora Bakogianni and ceased political work in May 2012.

founding

Because of her fundamental willingness, contrary to the official party policy of the center-right party Nea Dimokratia, to support the government's reform policy in the context of the Greek sovereign debt crisis , the former Foreign Minister Dora Bakogianni was expelled from the ND in early July 2010. Because the Nea Dimokratia was unsuccessful in the regional and local elections, Bakogianni founded a new bourgeois party called the "Democratic Alliance". The party's founding congress took place in May 2011.

Representation in parliament

The party was represented in the Greek Parliament by the following members:

The MP Kostas Kiltidis left the party immediately. Since the number of MPs was less than 10, the Democratic Alliance had no political party status .

The party had a member of the European Parliament :

Political positions

As stated in its founding declaration, the Democratic Alliance saw itself politically as a centrist movement that was ideologically inspired by the anthropocentric values of humanism and the Enlightenment , rational thinking and personal freedom, as well as by the economic, political and social freedom of liberalism as the foundation of social justice . It was also influenced by the struggles of the 19th and 20th centuries for social solidarity in Europe.

The party represented the following positions, among others:

  • Drastic reduction in taxes through the introduction of a 20% withholding tax . This tax rate should not only apply to people on low incomes, as it would be supplemented by a system that replaces the current tax cuts with negative taxation .
  • Reduction in the number of civil servants and the elimination of civil servant status for newly recruited employees in order to allow the government to manage two-thirds of the current staff. This would be combined with increased salaries for the remaining members based on performance assessments.
  • A law that obliges trade unionists to work in the public sector
  • Introduction of secret voting in all strike decisions
  • Introduction of a voucher-based education system

Participation in elections

In the parliamentary elections in May 2012 , DIM.SY. but with a voting share of 2.55% of the three percent threshold of the Greek electoral law. After this failure, the party agreed for the new election on June 17, 2012 with the Nea Dimokratia to join forces from both parties. The DIM.SY. called on her followers to vote for New Democracy.
