2012 - The Year Zero (Original title: 2012: Het jaar Nul ) is a Dutch television series from 2009. The twelve-episode youth series was shown for the first time in 2009 on the Dutch television channel Nederland 3 . A German-language version ran from Good Friday to Easter Monday 2011 on the television station Das Erste .

The Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012 . The hobby archaeologist Peter Hellinga finds a code on an expedition in Mexico , in which the events after December 21 are described. When he wants to return to the Netherlands, however, he is kidnapped. Only his luggage reaches the airport in Amsterdam . His two grandchildren, the martial arts experienced Twan and his brother, the youthful "inventor" Hidde, together with their friend Mascha and the Maya girl Felix, investigate his disappearance and try to decipher the Maya script. They are targeted by the sect "Survivors" who are after the code.

The series was produced for the Dutch television channel Nederland 3 by AVRO in collaboration with NL Film & TV . Jan Albert de Weerd directed all episodes . Interopa Film and WDR are responsible for the German version . Matthias Körnich (WDR) took over the editing.
