Malene Mortensen
Malene Mortensen (born May 23, 1982 ) is a Danish singer .
life and career
Mortensen comes from a family of musicians ; her mother was the music teacher and drummer Karen Mortensen , her father the trumpeter Jens Winther : the pianist Carl Winther is her younger brother. In her youth she was influenced by Stevie Wonder and Nancy Wilson and sang in a choir .
Mortensen became famous as a candidate for the Danish casting show Stjerne for en aften , where she made it to the finals with her version of the Moloko hit Sing It Back . A year later she won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix , the Danish pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn . At the contest itself, she came in last with her pop song Tell Me Who You Are . The poor performance did not prevent her further career: Her debut album in the pop-jazz genre , Paradise , was released in 2003. Produced by Niels Lan Doky , Danish jazz greats Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Alex Riel were involved. On later albums they accompany Chris Potter , Mike Stern and Avishai Cohen . She is not only known in Denmark, but has also toured Germany , France , Spain and especially Thailand , where she has already been on concert tour four times. The album You Belong to Me was recorded and released here in 2016 . In 2013 she performed at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival .
