Dolná Mariková is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia with 1428 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Považská Bystrica , a district of the Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The village is located in the Javorník Mountains in the valley of the Marikovský creek . The 22.14 km² large municipal area is mainly covered by brown forest soils. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 343 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Považská Bystrica and 17 kilometers from Púchov .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into four parts: Besné, Dolná Mariková, Hadoše and Katlina.
history
Archaeologically, a settlement in the Paleolithic can be proven (district Hatné ), with further finds from the New Stone Age and a settlement of the Lusatian culture .
The village itself was probably founded in the 13th century under German law. It was first mentioned in 1321 as Kethlehota , then in 1438 as Marykowa Lehota . The place belonged to a certain Kilián, an ancestor of the Hatnyánszky dynasty , in the 15th century, first partially, then completely to the manor of Waagbistritz.
In 1784 there were 719 houses and 3361 inhabitants, in 1828 without the current village of Horná Mariková 539 houses and 2317 inhabitants, who were mainly employed in agriculture and forestry. In the 19th century there was a saw, seven distilleries, a mill and a blacksmith's shop.
In 1954 the original municipality Mariková (Hungarian Marikó - until 1892 Marikova ) separated into the municipalities Dolná Mariková and Horná Mariková . From 1979 to 1990 the neighboring towns of Hatné and Klieština were part of the municipality.

According to the 2011 census, Dolná Mariková had 1,433 inhabitants, 1,366 of whom were Slovaks, two Jews and one each Magyar, Pole, Serb and Czech. 61 residents gave no answer. 1196 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, five residents to the Evangelical Church AB, three residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Greek Catholic Church, the Brethren Church and the Bahaitum; two residents were of other denominations. 72 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 152 inhabitants has not been determined.
