Jasenica is a municipality in north-western Slovakia with 575 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Považská Bystrica , a district of Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located at the foot of the Javorník Mountains in the lower part of the Papradnianska dolina and its Papradnianka brook , a few kilometers before the confluence with the Váh . The town center is located at an altitude of 311 m nm and is eleven kilometers from Považská Bystrica .
Neighboring communities are Stupné in the north, Hvozdnica in the northeast, Považská Bystrica (districts Podvažie and Šebešťanová) in the southeast and Udiča in the west.
history
The present municipality was created in 1924 through the merger of the previously independent villages Malá Jasenica (Hungarian Kisjeszence ) and Veľká Jasenica (Hungarian Nagyjeszence ).
Jasenica was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1269 in a document from the Neighborhood diocese as Jezencha and for a long time belonged to the Bytča estate . Malá Jasenica, on the other hand, was only mentioned in the 16th century, namely in 1598 as Kys Jeszenicze and belonged to the Sunek family .
In 1784 there were 66 houses and 412 inhabitants in the two villages, in 1828 56 houses and 512 inhabitants. The main source of income was agriculture, in the 19th century there was a distillery in Malá Jasenica.
Until 1918, both places belonged to Trenčín County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia , or today Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Jasenica had 1,051 inhabitants, 1,025 of whom were Slovaks, five Czechs and one Russian. 20 residents gave no answer. 952 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, eleven residents of the Evangelical Church AB, three residents of the Greek Catholic Church and one resident of the Evangelical Methodist Church; five residents were of other denominations. 37 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 42 residents has not been determined.
Attractions
- Single-nave Roman Catholic Archangel Michael Church in late Baroque style from 1781, inside there are three Baroque altars
- Country castle from 1618, originally built in the Renaissance style by the Szunyogh family, redesigned in Baroque style towards the end of the 18th century
