Stupné (Hungarian Osztopna - until 1907 Sztupne ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia with 689 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and belongs to the Okres Považská Bystrica , a district of the Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The community is located on the southern slope of the Javorníky Mountains in the valley of the Papradnianka brook , which runs roughly in a northwest-southeast direction and belongs to the catchment area of the Váh . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 330 m nm and is 11 kilometers away from Považská Bystrica .
Neighboring municipalities are Brvnište in the north, Hvozdnica in the east, Jasenica in the south and Udiča in the southwest and west.
history
Stupné was first mentioned in writing as Stupiczna in 1416 and was founded under German law. The village was initially part of the neighboring municipality of Jasenica and was part of the Bytča estate . In 1598 there was a mill and 24 houses, in 1784 the village had 80 houses, 75 families and 396 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 63 houses and 552 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and forest workers.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary , and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Stupné had 693 inhabitants, of which 676 were Slovaks , three Czechs and one Rome . 13 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
624 residents declared themselves to be part of the Roman Catholic Church. 25 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 44 residents was not determined.
