Liptovské Kľačany (until 1946 Slovak "K „ačany"; Hungarian Kelecsény , older also Kelecsén ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 378 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj and belongs to traditional landscape Liptov is counted.

The community is located in the middle of the Liptovská kotlina basin (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) below the Low Tatras on the Kľačianka brook in the Váh catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 657  m nm and is 21 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

Neighboring municipalities are Ľubeľa in the north and east, Dúbrava in the southeast, Partizánska Ľupča in the south and west and Malatíny in the north-west.

Liptovské Kľačany was first mentioned in writing in 1474 as Kleczen and was owned by the Fejérpataky family . In the Middle Ages and in modern times there were several mines in the valley of the Kľačianka brook , in which mainly gold was extracted, and iron ore in the second half of the 18th century. In 1784 the village had 55 houses and 354 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 48 houses and 347 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, forest workers, do-it-yourselfers and miners throughout the Kingdom of Hungary.

The place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and finally to Slovakia. During the Second World War, partisan groups were active in the area and after the suppression of the Slovak National Uprising in October 1944, partisans and German Wehrmacht fought several battles.

According to the 2011 census, Liptovské Kľačany had 352 residents, including 324 Slovaks , two Czechs and one German and one Russian . 32 residents gave no information on ethnicity .

279 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 22 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Seventh-day Adventists, the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. 19 residents had no denomination and 28 residents had no denomination.
