Malatíny (until 1927 in Slovak "Tri Malatíny" or "Nižný, Prostredný a Vyšný Malatín"; Hungarian Hárommalatin ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 237 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) belonging to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Liptov landscape .

geography

The village is located in the western half of the Liptovská kotlina basin (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) below the Low Tatras in the valley of the Malatínka brook , just before the confluence with the Váh . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 553  m nm and is 16 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

Neighboring municipalities are Partizánska Ľupča in the west and northwest, Vlachy in the northeast, Ľubeľa in the east and Liptovské Kľačany in the southeast.

history

The place arose after 1263 at the stream of the same name, when the municipality boundaries of the neighboring town Partizánska Ľupča. In the 14th century it was divided into three places, Nižný Malatín (Lower; Hungarian Alsómalatin ), Prostredný Malatín (Central; Hungarian Középmalatin ) and Vyšný Malatín (Upper; Hungarian Felsőmalatin ), which were known together as Tri Malatíny.

Nižný Malatín was mentioned in writing as Alsso Maletin in 1341 and belonged to the Malatinský family , later Fejérpataky and Kysel . In 1784 the village had 38 houses and 241 inhabitants, with the Szokolyi family as landlords.

Vyšný Malatín was also mentioned in writing in 1341 (as Malatin to Mechefelde ) and was owned by the Malatinský family . In 1784 there were 13 houses and 72 residents there.

Prostredný Malatín was first mentioned in 1461 as Kezepsow Maletin and was owned by the Pethö family . In 1784 the village had 13 houses and 86 inhabitants.

In 1828 there were 49 houses and 494 inhabitants in the three towns who were employed as tanners, farmers and day laborers. After 1882 the three places were reunited into one municipality.

The places in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and finally to Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, in addition to agriculture, basket making and weaving were important sources of income in the community.

According to the 2011 census, there were 204 inhabitants in Malatíny, including 194 Slovaks . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and nine residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

91 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and 63 residents to the Evangelical Church AB 37 residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 13 residents was not determined.
