Franz after work (1924)

Franz Feierabend senior , called Stalde Franz , (* 24. August 1885 , † 25. August 1964 ) was a Swiss accordion - and Swiss accordion player and composer. His music was the country music . He was a farmer and innkeeper by profession .

The Engelberg innkeeper and musician "Stalde Franz", as he was called after the field name of his family's house, made a name for himself early on with his country music and his hand organ playing.

In 1922 he was ranked 7th at the hand organ competition in Lachen SZ . In 1924 he won 1st place at an accordion competition in Lucerne. In November 1939 Franz Feierabend played his first 12 shellac records with his son Franz on the piano and the bassist Walter Kaiser. Further recordings followed in 1946. Son Josef also played. Initially, Stalden Franz played on a diatonic Schwyzerörgeli (already at 13 on an 8-bass) and later switched to a chromatic B-grip accordion with Schwyzer bass (Stradellabass, which is upside down) from the Eichhorn company, for which he always had ideas and brought in wishes for instrument making. In 1915 he had a Eichhorn accordion with three rows of melodies and in 1922 Eichhorn was finally able to build his dream instrument with five rows of melodies.

His approx. 50 compositions are part of the Central Swiss country music and are part of the repertoire of the most varied of formations. In 2011 a new CD with some tracks from Franz Feierabend was recorded.
