biography

Andreas Žampa comes from Vysoké Tatry and starts for the ski club based in Banská Bystrica .

At four Junior World Championships (2011 to 2014), a ninth place in the combination of Québec 2013 was his best result. At the age of 17, Žampa first took part in a world championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2011 and finished 82nd in the giant slalom. After failing to finish in both giant slalom and slalom two years later in Schladming , he classified himself in all five disciplines in Beaver Creek in 2015 . A 29th place in the slalom was his best result. He achieved his best result in the European Cup with 20th place in March 2013 in the giant slalom in Sochi .

On December 2, 2012, Žampa made his World Cup debut in the giant slalom of Beaver Creek . In February 2014 he represented his country at the Olympic Winter Games and reached ranks 36 and 32 in Super-G and Giant Slalom, in slalom he was eliminated. After numerous non-qualifications and failures, he won World Cup points for the first time in January 2016 with 23rd place in the combination of Kitzbühel . In the following season he achieved several placements among the top 30 in the giant slalom, with a 21st place in Adelboden remaining his best result.

At the World Championships in St. Moritz , he surprisingly won the silver medal in the team competition with Veronika Velez-Zuzulová , Petra Vlhová and Matej Falat . A year later he recorded four starts at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang , but retired in his strongest discipline, giant slalom. The Slovak team could not match the previous year's result and narrowly failed in the first round to Germany. At Chuenisbärgli in Adelboden , he achieved his best World Cup results so far in 2018 and 2019 with giant slalom ranks 18 and 20.
