Skároš (until 1945 Slovak "Skaros", Hungarian Eszkáros - until 1907 Szkáros ) is a municipality and a town in the east of Slovakia , with a population of 1,113 (December 31, 2019). It is located in Okres Košice-okolie , a part of Košický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in a transition area between the Košická kotlina basin and the Slanské vrchy mountains on the Marovka brook , a few kilometers from the Hungarian border. The center of the village is 20 kilometers from Košice . There is a cross-border connection to Hollóháza in Hungary.
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1270 in a description of the rulership limits of Füzér Castle as terra Skarus . In 1427 there were 15 portals in the village . In 1720 the place was completely deserted and was then repopulated. The main occupation was cattle breeding and trading on the Košice market, after the First World War also agriculture and forestry.
Until 1918 the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , it was again in Hungary in 1938-45.
