Vajkovce (until 1927 Slovak and "Valkovce"; Hungarian Tarcavajkóc - until 1907 Vajkóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 964 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the okolie Kosice Okres , part of kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Košická kotlina basin , on the left bank of the Torysa . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 205 m nm and is nine kilometers from Košice .
Neighboring municipalities are Kráľovce in the north, Chrastné in the east, Rozhanovce in the south, Beniakovce in the southwest and Budimír in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1473 as Waykocz and derives its name from the personal name Vojk . In 1630 the town made a tax of 1 porta for farmers and ½ porta for serf families. Landowners from the 18th century came from the families of Szinyei , Soós , Szatmáry and others. In 1828 there were 49 houses and 322 inhabitants, who were mainly employed as farmers, but also as fishermen and salt carters.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census lived in Vajkovce 630 inhabitants, of which 548 Slovaks , six Czechs , three Hungarians , two Roma and Russians as well as Moravians . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 67 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
225 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 183 residents the Reformed Church, 50 residents the Greek Catholic Church, 43 residents the Evangelical Church AB, four residents the Apostolic Church, three residents each for the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Orthodox Church as well one resident each for the Seventh-day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Pentecostalism; five residents professed a different denomination. 31 residents had no denomination and 80 residents had no denomination.
