Place name

The name of the village developed from cives et hospites ac montani de eadem Ida in 1359 via Cives de Ida Banya (1440), Aran Ida (1564), Aranyda (1602), Aranidka (1622), Arany Nitka (1707), Arany -Idka (1806) to the Slovak Zlatá Idka and the Hungarian Arany Idka (since 1851). Translated, Zlatá Idka means Golden Ida der Goldida , where Idka is the diminutive of the Ida river and means the (small) mountain stream Ida.

Zlatá Idka was settled in the early 14th century on the original "great Ida land", the territory of which was in the Hýľov cadastre . In 1332 there were disputes about the new settlers from the German-speaking area and the area of Hýľov. At that time the area of Hýľov extended to the boundaries of the Gelnica area . The dispute decision stated that both sides should share the wealth equally if iron, silver, copper ore or gold were to be found in the disputed area. Gold was found and washed and miners drove the first tunnels in the rock to exploit the silver veins. In a document from 1359, the monks of Jasov Monastery complained that the settlers were occupying parts of their property in the Ida Bana area . The miners opened mine shafts in various places, dug islands for clearing and built accommodation buildings. This loose structure can still be seen today in the scattered districts of Zlatá Idka. It was not until the church was built in the 18th century that a kind of village center developed. After the decline of the first mining period, German miners left the area in the 16th century. New settlers, including German-speaking but mainly Slovak settlers, now devoted themselves to logging or agriculture on the few barren soils. The main food source gradually became livestock. Zlatá Idka was then a purely Slovak village in 1696. Short mining periods continued into the 20th century.

Attractions

  • Roman Catholic parish church of All Saints ( Rímskokatolícky kostol Všetkých svätých ) with a statue of St. Clement , built in 1768 in place of a wooden previous church at the expense of the miners, reconstructed after the First World War
  • old tunnel entrance at the western bypass
  • "Erika" ski area with five lifts and several slopes

economy

After the end of mining, agriculture and forestry played an important role in Zlatá Idka. Many commuters work in the industrial and service companies located in and around Košice . There are now more weekend houses of Košice residents than houses of local residents. The community lives from the income from winter sports tourism, especially in the winter season thanks to the ski lifts and good slopes. In Zlatá Idka there is a school, a post office, a restaurant and grocery stores.
