Herľany (until 1927 in Slovak "Herlany"; German first Herlein , later Bad Rank and Rank-Herlein , Hungarian Ránkfüred - older also Herlány ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia . It is located at the foot of the Slanské vrchy Mountains, about 28 km northeast of Košice .

The place was first mentioned in writing as Haryan in 1487 . It is known for the only cold water geyser in Slovakia - besides the weakly active Sivá Brada near Spišské Podhradie .

The village Žírovce , which was incorporated in 1964, also belongs to the municipality .
