history

The present-day community came into being in 1964 through the merger of the previously independent towns of Byster (Hungarian Beszter ) and Zdoba (Hungarian Izdoba ). The name means something like "orchards on the Torysa".

Byster was first 1332/5 in a church Tenth directory as Best written records and belonged to a Benedictine monastery in what is now Krásna. In 1427 there were a total of 20 portals according to a directory . In 1828 there were 61 houses and 454 inhabitants who were employed in forestry, agriculture and fruit growing (especially sweet cherries ). The population in modern times and in the 19th century was mixed Slovak and Hungarian.

Zdoba was first mentioned in writing in 1335 as Sdoba and, like Byster, belonged to the Benedictine monastery mentioned above. In 1427 there were a total of 17 portals according to a directory. In 1562 the estate came to the Jesuits of Tyrnau , and in 1598 it was transferred to the Gran Chapter. In modern times, the majority of names were of German and Hungarian origin. At the beginning of the 18th century the village was almost deserted and in 1715 there were abandoned and derelict houses. Zdoba was repopulated after 1720 by the majority Slovak-speaking Greek-Catholic population. In 1828 there were 33 houses and 282 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture.

Until 1918/1919, the places in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitral Award , they were again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
