Čakanovce (German Tschakanowetz , Hungarian Ósvacsákány - until 1907 Csákány ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 703 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the okolie Kosice Okres , part of kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the northeast part of the Košická kotlina basin below the Slanské vrchy mountains to the east , in the valley of the Herliansky potok in the Olšava catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 279 m nm and is 22 kilometers from Košice .
Neighboring municipalities are Bačkovík in the north, Herľany (cadastral municipality Žirovce ) and Vyšná Kamenica in the northeast, Nižná Kamenica in the east, Bidovce in the south, Trsťany in the west and Čižatice in the northwest.
history
Čakanovce was first mentioned in writing as Chakan in 1276 , along with the nearby towns of Bidovce and Svinica . At that time the village belonged to the Svinica estate, which was held by the Aba family. In 1406 the property came to the Perényi family and the Trebišov estate . In 1427 20 porta were recorded in a tax register. In 1828 there were 52 houses and 390 inhabitants who were employed as basket makers and farmers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Čakanovce had 618 inhabitants, including 455 Slovaks , 86 Roma , five Czechs , four Magyars and one Ukrainian . 67 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
280 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 196 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 32 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 24 residents to the Reformed Church, five residents to the Seventh-day Adventists, three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one Residents to the Orthodox Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 18 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 57 residents was not determined.
